Giving Your Mannequins A Make Over

If you don’t have the money to replace your mannequins then there are several ways in which you can give them a make over. Weather it be your in store or window mannequins, some times a small yet dramatic difference to a mannequin can change the look of the window design, look of a department and even the effect of the store, so it is worth planning several window displays and in store displays, incorporating the newly designed mannequins, so you don’t have to revamp them each time.

Change its completion.

Don’t just think white, black or tan. Think bright bold or pastels depending on what you want to put on it. Bright bold colours will work well if you are dressing it in on colour outfit, just don’t paint it red then put a red dress on it, as it will be lost..
If you go with this then you are going to have to spray them. Always remember to do it in a well ventilated place, wear protective clothing and lay down paper or a tarpaulin. Take the mannequin apart and tape over the fixing wear they go back together.

Body paint.

Using water body paint you can create what ever design you want, just remember that they do rub off slightly. So be careful when dressing them.

Applying artificial make up.

This is a great way to in crease the look for a complete outfit. You can create a glam look, bright and fresh, or even a theatrical look.

Novelty masks

If you have a damaged face this is the best way to go. Check out fancy dress shops on the internet for cheap face masks or even good quality Venetian masks. They can give them dramatic look, and different look.
If you cant find the right one for your mannequin then you can always make one, if your feeling creative.

Head dresses.

These are best used on casual wear out fits.
American Indian head dress can create a good look on any outfit.
If you want to use one on a formal outfit your best going for 1920s or tiaras

Applying mosaic or collage.

Best done on a badly damaged mannequin as it will cover up pretty much every sin.

Recompose the parts and the pose.

Working with the movement of the mannequin, moving its arms wrists waist to change its pose.
Breaking down the mannequin and using the legs to display only trousers, shorts, skirt shoes and the torso displaying tops and accessories can be another way to give your display a new look. Also if you have half a mannequin that is not damaged.

A new hair do.
Most mannequins do not come with artificial hair, some may have a molded style. So dressing them with a stylish wig can left the look, adding a dramatic look, colour and finish of the look.
