John Lewis at Brent cross opened march 10th 1976 as one of the anchor shops spread over 3 floors.
I don’t think that this store has had any major refurbishment since it opened.
As you go in to the store from the ground floor you are greeted, currently by their christmas gift shop. The metal framed cubes with their glass shelves are laid out beautifully with sweets food and gift sets, all with enough space to move between, It is a little on the tight side but a particle spacing.
The only thing is that they could do with a little bit more levels put in, putting smaller units to the front of the shop creating a gradual movement in to the store.
The lighting department is small but well planed out, with the canopy lighting reflecting the floor and table laps on display beneath.
The jewellery sec on is magical lit making every item sparkle. The clothing department are well stocked and fixtures well placed and ease to shop.
They have a lovely home section with cups, plates, pots, pans and gasses, as well as a very large and classy rug section, with rugs stacked in their size and colour.
I said that i did not think that the store has had any major refit, this is because as you walk through the store, the walk ways are marked out with white marble and the shopping/fixture area has wooden flooring and the rug area has a grey carpet. As dated as this is there is an old school charm about it. Rather then the stark minimalist almost cold look of some modern store interiors. Even the faded yellowing celling is respectable, with no redundant sky hooks or signage.
All in all the shop is clean and tidy and a respectable place for the name that is above the door.
Room for improvement:
The idea of a carpeted rug department is delightful, a little dated but it divides the area beautifully but it could do with being replaced with a new one rather then a wooden floor or marble.
Creating a look. Using rugs, furniture, electrical’s home accessories, table sets, floor ceiling and table lights as well as mannequins, would look very classy in this store in the home department, especially t the end of the walk way leading to the rug department, as this is an unused sight line.
